HELLENIC-CANADIAN COMMUNITY
Founded in 1982, the Hellenic-Canadian Community of Edmonton and Region is a cultural organization with non-profit and registered charity status.
Welcoming to all Canadians and those of Greek origin, the basic purposes of the community are: (1) to advance the Hellenic culture as part of a multicultural Canadian heritage; (2) to promote better understanding, appreciation and advancement of the Hellenic arts; (3) to carry on charitable, artistic, educational and cultural functions; and to (4) advance Hellenic culture and education by housing a Hellenic language school and library.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors' roles are fulfilled in the discharge of their following three duties:
"Duty of due care" — it has the ultimate responsibility of ensuring prudent use of all assets, including facility, people, and good will; and provide oversight for all activities that advance the organizations effectiveness and sustainability.
"Duty of loyalty" — to make decisions in the best interest of the organization and not in his or her self-interest.
"Duty of obedience" — to ensure that the organization obeys applicable laws and acts in accordance with ethical practices; that the nonprofit adheres to its stated bylaws and purposes, and that its activities advance its mission.
